Lisa always was boyish, her friends called her that. Dresses, dolls, tea parties - all of that was too boring and didn’t match with her life’s rhythm. It was much more interesting for her to play football with guys or conquer castles with a wooden sword. This was true so much that when she became 15, her only friends were boys. And if earlier they used to try to call her girly, now they became a true team, where she wasn’t excluded from anything. They often went to abandoned houses or had fun on a nearby building. Since her lifestyle was not ordinary, Lisa had an unusual look: bruises on her knees, comfy sneakers on her feet and boyish t-shirts. No braids or frilly stuff - she was sure that short hair was the best look for her. One day on a Christmas Eve she played near of a candle, and it unexpectedly caught her hair on fire. In seconds Lisa lost almost all her hair, luckily the fire didn’t touch her face. Since that day she have had a very short haircut, which her mom hated a lot. Once while hanging out with guys, they got bored and decided to play a wishing game. Lisa’s wish from them was to shave her head bald. She still doesn’t know why, but she thought this was another test of her spiritual power. It was like she said to herself, “Am I that brave to shave my head?” Well, she was interested to try the bald girl look, since she always liked to look like a boy. One of the boys carried the trimmer. Lisa shaved her hair herself and stared in the mirror. A shining bald head looked back at her from the mirror. They smiled to each other and decided that they looked really cool! As it occurred, Lisa was the only one that liked the bald look. When her parents saw their girl with a bald had and a bright smile her mother almost had a heart attack! And then, when they realized it wasn’t another the result of another candle game, but her friends’ wish, it started... how they were screaming! Lisa’s still shaking remembering that moment. Then they said if she wants to look like a boy, she has something wrong with her orientation and need a psychologist. Long story short, that evening she learned a lot about herself, and not good stuff. But hair doesn’t grow back in a night, so the next day she went to school with a bald head. Classmates had different reaction. Some called her a fool, some told her she was really brave because not every girl could make such a serious decision. Teachers even started asking if she had cancer... Why would they even think this? God. And then the Principal screamed at her too and threaten to exclude her from school. But it was a pleasure for her to have people in her school who liked her new look very much. Even a few girls came to her and said she was really brave! That’s how she found out who her true friend were. Having a bald head was totally worth it! But there were other pluses. First, she didn’t have trouble with washing her hair anymore and she saved lots of money on shampoos and hairbrushes. Second, she didn’t need to spend time on hair care - no hair - no problems! Third, at the end of this experiment it turned out Lisa really wanted to have long and pretty hair! Weird! But that radical haircut actually helped her! Various vitamins and treatments got right to the hair roots from the skin of her head and grew in healthy and strong after that. Her hair stylist told her this. Yes, she realized she really wants long hair and a pretty dress. She was almost 16 and it was still fun to hang out with guys, but she now wants them to see her not only as a friend, but as a girl who they want to care for. That doesn’t mean her rebellious spirit is gone, she just knows now that she should do what she likes and not worry what others may think. Lisa can be feminine, wear skirts and dresses, and still continue her experiments. She can be herself because true friends will stay with her. Just do what you want. Don’t prove anything. Don’t try to make everyone like you. It’s your life. It’s up to you to decide what it will be. This is the lesson Lisa learned and she doesn’t regret learning it. She hopes you will agree with her and will always try to remain yourself in such situations.
