Hello! Welcome to Pattern Poole TV, we are a mother and daughter team making quilt as you go quilts and sharing our tutorials on YouTube. A lot of people have been saying they want to make a quilt as you go quilt but don't know where to start or they want to quilt a full quilt on their domestic sewing machine and don't know how to even begin. So, meet our quilt as you go string quilt, it is easy, beginner friendly, stitch and flip and it is only 1 block design, made 36 times, rotated to created the stunning geometric pattern. In this video we are going to take you through the basics of quilting, we will show you what tools you need, how to cut out your fabrics, batting and backing and then how to quilt a block. From there we will show you the entire process of quilt as you go. For this quilt I used my easy cover strip method but with the cover strips on the back to give the look of a traditional quilt but with a modern edge. We will show you how to join two blocks together, then how to form a row and then how to join those rows together to make a complete quilt. My method for quilt as you go is fully machine sewn and so is the binding method that I show. It is a bit of a different binding method, but it is very easy. So don't forget this is a free pattern, perfect for scraps and easy enough any beginner can do. The reason why we chose a string quilt design is because historically speaking string quilts were made with scraps of fabric or strings all sewn together. They are not about the points lining up but rather the stunning overall geometric patterns they create. I could talk all day about string quilts, we did some research for this project and it was amazing the information we uncovered. In the spirit of being thrifty with fabrics and using scraps we encourage you to have fun with this project, don't be too hard on yourself and if you need any extra help don't forget we have a private Facebook community full of other beginner quilters and also advanced quilters who have been sewing with us for years. This group is like our virtal sit n sew group and because it is international, there is always someone online.
