Victoria Vox told the story of playing the mouth trumpet on Jay Leno. A new interview every week! PLUS: Your contributions are encouraged! We've heard about the guy who took his uke to hospital with him so that his newborn son's footprints could be printed on it! My podcast UKULELE TALES is back! Season 2 kicked off this week with a feature-length interview with the amazing Cynthia Lin. We talk about everything from her Broadway ambitions, her recent European tour, and her new album, to weird comments she's received online, and why she was close to walking away from YouTube for good back in 2018. Cynthia doesn't give many interviews, so this is a great opportunity to have a look behind the curtains and get to know 'the real Cynthia Lin'. It's a can't miss-episode, so be sure to check it out. Search for UKULELE TALES in Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and all the usual podcasty places. New episode every other Wednesday!

It's been years, but I'm finally going back... to the Los Angeles International 'Ukulele Festival - and it's next weekend (September 24th)! The L.A. Ukulele Festival is possibly the *greatest* ukulele event I've ever taken part in (certainly the sunniest!). I turned up to the first one in 2015 as a paying customer after Jack from Uke Life tipped me off about it on Instagram (thanks, Jack!) while I was on holiday in L.A. I was a bit nervous about attending a ukulele festival on my own as I didn't think I'd know a single person there, but I shouldn't have worried as everybody there (especially the organiser, Mitch) was incredibly friendly and really made me feel at home. Funnily enough, about a month after attending the L.A. Ukulele Festival, I met my later-to-be-wife, and by the time of the 2016 event the following year we attended the festival together, and even bought our dog along - the much missed wonderpup, Paquirri! The 2017 festival was of course a blast, and I got to meet and hang out with the staff of the legendary McCabe's Guitar Shop which was something of a personal thrill for me. In 2018 I had to unfortunately pull out of appearing as... our son Percy was born just a few days before the festival! I was all set to return in 2019, when my best friend in England decided to get married on the same weekend as the festival and I had to make a very tough choice as there was no way I could be in two places (or countries!) at once, so unfortunately I missed that one too. Then for reasons I'm sure you guys know, there was obviously no festival in 2020 or 2021... But this year it's BACK and it's bigger than ever. And I can't wait to be a part of it! I'm genuinely so happy to be returning to the L.A. Ukulele Festival, and incredibly grateful to Mitch for having me back after so many years. I can't wait to meet friends old and new. If you spot me there be sure to say hello!

Oh, this old thing…? 🙈 One of the cool things about moving is finding stuff that you had lost/forgotten about/never had a chance to unpack from the last time you moved. I just found my YouTube gold play button which I received for reaching 1,000,000 subscribers. It was still in the packing material from when we shipped it over from the USA two years ago! 😂 Getting this was genuinely one of the proudest moments/achievements of my life, but I was also a bit embarrassed by it and I think I just shoved it in a closet somewhere and forgot about it. I feel really bad about that now and want to be a bit prouder of who I am and what I do for a living. So as soon as I unpack the toolkit with the hammer and nails this is going to take pride of place on the wall in my new office. It’s really important to be proud of your accomplishments and happy with who you are. I know a lot of you (all of you, really) are super talented and creative in a lot of ways, so I want to encourage you not to hide your light under a bushel but to share yourself and your creations with the world. Be proud of who you are and enjoy celebrating your accomplishments! And let the world enjoy celebrating with you! Happy Friday 😃 John The Ukulele Teacher
