I bet you see a lot of DIY subwoofer boxes being showcased on Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram and even here on YouTube made out of L-ported or some may other call it transmission or T-Lined boxes. That is because it is quick and easy to build, everything is using the same material from baffle to enclosure to port out of MDF sheet! Let's dive into the fun part right away!
  • First part is the unboxing of a brand new Pioneer TS-W311D4 12" Champion Series Subwoofer with Dual 4 Ohm Voice Coil.
  • I used the RE Audio L-Ported speaker box calculator on their website to compute the right box for the subwoofer. Here's the link http://reaudio.com/box.php. You need to activate and enable Adobe Flash Player on your browser in order to use the subwoofer box calculator.
  • TS-W311D4 has a factory free-air resonance of 43Hz, but I tuned beyond the Fs and tuned down to 31Hz in this ported enclosure.
  • Resulting box volume is 2.001 cubic feet equivalent to the 31Hz tuning including the total port displacement.
  • Layout the calculated values on Tinkercad to get a graphic overview. Here's the link https://www.tinkercad.com/things/19pH...
  • Roundover router bit to round the edges inside the port to increase good air flow.
  • Then the rest is the whole nine yards of subwoofer box building. So sit back and relax while having a cold beverage and some snacks to watch this satisfying DIY subwoofer video.
  • Carpeted with charcoal dark speaker carpet. Used a rubber contact cement to adhere the material into the box.
  • Most favorite part: The assembly. Tinned the exposed copper part of a 12 gauge speaker wire to ensure coolness and connectivity.
  • Wired the champion series pioneer subwoofer into parallel to get a 2 Ohms final impedance.
  • Bolted the subwoofer using a 4mm Allen Hex bolts and 4 prong Tee nuts under it.
  • Showcase the final product like a champion!
