Sara Drew, a conservator at Center Art Studio in New York City, explains how she restored a 180-year-old painting. Henry Wilkin's portrait of English opera singer Madame Lucia Elizabeth Vestris has accumulated thick layers of dirt and tobacco smoke on the surface after hanging in a Manhattan social club for years. The painting also has paint loss due to overcleaning by the last person who restored it and has tears that need to be repaired.
