HOW TO KNIT TRUE AFTERTHOUGHT HEELS // CUT IN AFTERTHOUGHT WITH NO WASTE YARN
The next installment of my "How I Knit Socks" series. This video will show you how I prep, cut, and knit a true afterthought heel. I can't claim this method as my own. I learned from the Kirby Wirby Afterthought Video here on YouTube and modified it a bit to fit my needs. I highly suggest checking out her video, too!
In this video, I'll show you how to prep the sock by picking up stitches on either side of where your heel will go, how to cut (*le gasp!*) your yarn and pull out a row, and finally how to knit a true afterthought heel using a contrasting yarn. The video will walk you through the standard toe decrease that we mimic for the heel and wrap it all up with the Kitchener stitch. If you are unfamiliar with these methods, I suggest youtubeing them! I don't go into too much detail in this video as it is assumed you're already familiar with the terms.

Standard Toe Decreases:
Row 1, Needle 1: K1, SSK, knit to last 3, K2TOG, K1
Row 1, Needle 2: K1, SSK, knit to last 3, K2TOG, K1
Row 2, Needle 1: Knit all
Row 2, Needle 2: Knit all
Repeat these until you've decreased to your preferred number of stitches.
