Some questions can have only one answer. Each respondent can choose only one option. The results will be percentages that add up to 100%. But other questions allow for multiple answers. We ask survey takers to “check all that apply”. That may be an interesting way to ask a question, but it can be a nightmare if you do not know how to handle that kind of data in IBM SPSS Statistics software. We are going to dive deeper into how to handle multiple response items in SPSS. This video uses the open-source GSS2016.sav dataset. Data from previous years are also available.
