This footage is about a successful rescue mission launched by the department of wildlife conservation to release the entrapped trunk of a tender baby elephant, from a brutal snare set by the poachers to hunt wild boars. The officials of the department of wildlife conservation, got an anonymous call that a baby elephant has caught up with a wire snare in his trunk in a reserved forest. Luckily that reserved forest was located within few kilo meters away from their office. A team hurriedly dispatched to the location as soon as possible. They could locate the entrapped baby elephant after few minutes of search. But soon they realized the gravity of the situation. Mother elephant was also there trying to save her baby. Rescue seems to be more challenging with the presence of mother elephant. Elephant mother was so nervous with the unfortunate incident that her baby had to encounter and frantically moves here and there, to find some way to save her baby. It is impossible to save the baby without detaching it from the mother elephant. Because the mother elephant would attack anyone who will get closer to her baby, thinking that they would cause more danger to her baby. The officials try to chase away the elephant using the firecrackers and rubber bullets. But all were in vain. She is not ready to leave her baby for any reason. That’s the nature of mother’s love. However baby elephant’s trunk should be released swiftly. Because the encircling wire around the elephant’s trunk would restrict the blood circulation and there’s a risk for the baby to die with asphyxiation. The baby elephant is struggling to free himself. This would cause the wire being pulled more tightly around the trunk, causing painful constriction. So the wildlife officials have to act out quickly. They decided to sedate the mother elephant to enable the rescuers to reach the baby. Reaching the spot is also quite challenging with the undulated land. They darted the mother elephant with tranquilizer gun. The officers cautiously reached the mother elephant to check whether she has been completely sedated. The baby elephant is beneath the belly area of the mother elephant. On the other side there’s a thorny bush. It is extremely challenging to reaching the baby elephant to release its trunk. Mother elephant tries to attack the team, as she still has the consciousness. She is injected with another dose of anesthetic drug. The veterinary surgeon slowly reached the baby elephant. He tried to cut and remove the encircling cable wire that wrapped around baby elephant’s trunk. But it was not easy at this position. Thorny bushes and presence of mother elephant disturb the operation. Then the veterinary surgeon decided to detach the baby elephant from the anchor of the snare first, enabling the baby elephant to move freely. The elephant was released from the snare. But the encircling piece of cable wire is still around baby elephant’s trunk. Then they reached from the other side of the mother elephant and pulled baby elephant away from the mother to perform the further operation without the interference of the mother elephant. The embedded piece of wire should be removed quickly. Otherwise the baby elephant would die in asphyxiation. The officer is trying to free the baby elephant’s trunk. Meanwhile unexpectedly the mother elephant turned the other side seeking her baby even with the unconsciousness. She will surely attack the rescuers. No need to explain how risky the whole operation is. There was no other option. One officer approach the elephant from its back and pat the elephant to deviate its attention to opposite direction. Otherwise the fellow rescuers lives were at risk. Luckily the elephant responded his action and stopped a bit and turned around. That saved the lives of other rescuers. Baby elephant came close to his mother again. They covered the mother elephant’s eyes to avoid the sight of baby elephant. Otherwise she will act violently again when humans getting closer to her baby. Now you can see mother elephant’s eyes have been covered. Then the veterinary surgeon reached the baby elephant again. He carefully unwind and removed the encircling piece of wire, without causing any damage to the elephant’s trunk. Finally the trunk was released after a tremendous effort. Then he started treating the injured trunk. First they cleaned the encircled area and applied medicines on the trunk. After the treatment, the baby elephant was showered with water to hydrate its body. Saline treatment was also given to elephant as they thought that the baby elephant is weakened. There was only minor injury on its trunk.
